Brockleby's Pies, whose bakery is located in the borough of Melton Mowbray, has become the latest local business to partner with and support Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust.

Handmade artisan pie makers, Brockleby's, on Asfordby Hill have been searching for a suitable beneficiary to gain from their commitment to sustainability.  For a couple of years now they have encouraged customers to recycle their national mail order packaging as well as their pie boxes and they were keen to do this in conjunction with a local charity whose values in conservation are in sync with theirs.

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust is working hard to protect wildlife and wild places across the two counties, as well as inspiring, educating and encouraging local people to take action for nature. Their use and promotion of conservation farming methods to bring wildlife and insects back to their natural habitats made the partnership a great fit for both organisations.

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust will now benefit through Brockleby's adoption of eco-friendly and sustainable practices in the distribution of their pies. National delivery orders are dispatched insulated with Woolcool packaging to keep the pies cold whilst in transit without having to use temperature controlled vans. The Woolcool slab which is wrapped around each pie order is made from food-safe wrapped low-grade British-European wool which would otherwise be discarded.

The pie manufacturer is pledging to donate £1 to Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust for every customer's return of Woolcool packaging to the Bakery. There is no additional cost involved; the customer simply uses the pre-paid envelope provided to return the wool back to base.

Brockleby's are offering an additional incentive to help save the planet. Every customer who returns their wool packaging will be entered into a prize draw to win some pies!

Speaking about the partnership Ian Jalland, MD of Brockleby's Pies said:

“We are really pleased to be making a difference to Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust through our recycling programme, whilst also rewarding our customers for the part they are playing in posting back the wool. In my early days of farming, a Wildlife Trust helped me to establish a herd of rare breed Hebridean sheep, which was the forerunner to me setting up Brockleby's some 20 years ago. It is especially meaningful to be able to give something back.”

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tim Graham said:

“We are really excited to be working with Brockleby’s and to be part of their recycling initiative that will help raise vital funds to support our work. Brockleby’s use eco-friendly and sustainable practices in the distribution of their pies and are making it a priority to do what they can to protect their local environment, so we are looking forward to developing our partnership with them.

We need more people taking action for nature across our region and every act, no matter how small makes a big difference. By building partnerships in local communities, we can achieve more for wildlife and help more people get closer to nature.”
